At Fellowship Missions, every resident’s story is a testament to resilience, faith, and the power of community. In this blog post, we’re proud to share the journey of one of our residents: a single mother who has faced immense challenges but found hope, healing, and purpose through her faith and the support of Fellowship Missions.
From navigating personal loss and health struggles to rediscovering trust and strength, her story reflects the impact of our mission to provide not only shelter but also a safe space for growth and transformation. We hope you enjoy reading about Trisha and learning from her story.
Born and Raised in Faith
Growing up in Easton, Pennsylvania, I’ve always had a relationship with Jesus for as long as I can remember. My faith has been my foundation, even through the most difficult times.
For 21 years, I’ve been a single mother to two children, raising them on my own. My professional journey started with children, as I earned my early education certificate in high school and worked in that field for many years.
But in 2016, my life took a hard turn. After losing my father and facing serious health challenges, I had to step away from work. That period marked the beginning of significant hardships that led me to a crossroads I never expected.
Finding Fellowship Missions
In 2018, I found myself in a dangerous situation at home. I had no choice but to leave, yet I didn’t have anywhere to go in Pennsylvania. A friend from Fort Wayne reached out, offering me hope and a fresh start. But starting over in a new city was difficult.
Finding a job and a place to stay was challenging, and I eventually found my way to a shelter in Fort Wayne. That shelter connected me to an opening at Fellowship Missions, where I’ve been in and out since then.
Though I’ve worked various jobs, when my health declined or my income couldn’t meet my rent, I had to return to Fellowship Missions. And each time, they welcomed me back with open arms.
A Safe Place to Heal
2024 has been particularly hard, but Fellowship Missions has been a true refuge for me and my son. We’re in a safe place with people who genuinely care about us. Here, I’m learning to be still and trust God, even when life feels overwhelming. I’m also learning to trust people again, which is a difficult step for me, but one that’s important in helping me rebuild my life.
The people at Fellowship Missions have become like family to me. They offer more than just shelter; they’ve given me a community where I can heal and grow.
Celebrating Milestones and Looking Ahead
Right now, my focus is on my health and caring for my son. Returning to work isn’t in the cards for me, but I’ve taken steps toward securing disability so I can eventually move into a place of our own. I’ve applied and am prayerfully waiting for my claim to be approved.
Another goal is to pay off my fines, get my driver’s license back, and eventually get a car. These milestones will bring me closer to independence and stability.
I’m also looking forward to being baptized. That is a personal goal I’ve held onto, and I know God is guiding me toward it when the time is right.
A Community of Support
Fellowship Missions isn’t just about providing shelter; it’s about creating a space where everyone feels like they belong.
One of my favorite parts of the week is the Friday meetings where staff and residents come together. It’s a time of laughter and community, especially when Eric, the Executive Director, cracks jokes and lifts our spirits.
The Women’s Bible studies are another highlight for me. Tammy and Cindy lead us in studying the Word, and I’ve learned so much about God’s love and His plans for my life through those sessions. They remind me that I’m not alone on this journey. God is with me, and so is this wonderful community.
Prayer for the Journey Ahead
As I move forward, my prayer is to stay on the path that God has for me. I don’t want to stray from His will, and I trust that He will continue to guide me as I work toward my goals.
I am deeply grateful for the love and support I’ve found at Fellowship Missions. This place has been a lifeline for me and my son, and I know that with God’s help and the support of this community, we’ll continue to move forward toward a brighter future.
